Raj K. Patel, MD is an experienced clinician specializing in psychiatric and addiction medicine services. He received his B.A. degree in Biology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He graduated from medical school at the University of Toledo College of Medicine in Toledo, OH. After completing residency from Wake Forest University Department of Psychiatry, Dr. Patel chose to join Carolinas Pain Institute as Behavioral Health Director. He brings with him several years of inpatient and outpatient work experience in both general and addiction psychiatry across various hospitals and mental health organizations in North Carolina. Awarded the resident teaching award in residency, as well as the role of chief resident, Dr. Patel embodies leadership and clinical expertise. As part of his commitment to life long education Dr. Patel continues to be involved in the Wake Forest Department of Psychiatry as Clinical Adjunct Faculty and in the development and education of psychiatric trainees as course director for Pain Management. Combining his comprehensive training in behavioral health with a robust understanding of chronic pain issues, Dr. Patel truly practices integrative care. He is actively involved in mental health awareness and advocacy, and is a member of the American Psychiatric Association and the National Alliance on Mental Illness in North Carolina.
Born and raised in rural North Carolina, Dr. Patel’s roots connect him to this state and its people. Dr. Patel’s solution focused treatment philosophy emphasizes functionality and is delivered in a compassionate and humanistic way. His friendly demeanor and easy going attitude are a remarkable asset to his patient centered approach.
