Dr. Derek Ayers, DO is a specialty trained Psychiatrist who completed his medical residency at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, where he was awarded the position of Chief Resident during his graduating year. Prior to coming to Winston Salem, he received his B.S in Biology from Virginia Tech and graduated medical school at Lincoln Memorial University School of Medicine in eastern Tennessee where he received the prestigious Excellence in Behavioral Health Award in 2013.
Dr. Ayers has spent his entire life in this region, affording him a warm understanding of the day to day needs of this community and the patients he serves. He has a wholesome approach to medical care, identifying and focusing on the aspects that are most important to his patients and their lives. Joining Carolinas Pain Institute as Behavioral Health Director, Dr. Ayers combines this personalized approach and welcoming attitude with his years of mental health and substance use expertise to deliver an engaging patient experience.
As Clinical Adjunct Faculty in the Department of Psychiatry, Dr. Ayers is also actively involved with medical education of psychiatric residents and currently serves as the course director for Career development for Wake Forest Baptist Health.
